Top Cancer Fighting Foods
According to a newly published series of studies scientists have found that eating cabbage, cooking meat with garlic and even rubbing yourself all over with extract of broccoli can all help reduce the risk of cancer.
This all adds to the growing evidence that changing your diet may be among the most effective way of prolonging your life.
Experts believe that as much as a third of all cancers are thought to be associated with diet, and after not smoking, eating more fruit and vegetables is the second most effective way to cut the risk of cancer.
Researchers from the University of New Mexico investigating the rapid rise in breast cancer among Polish women who emigrated to the U.S. compared to their counterparts at home, found that those who ate raw or short-cooked cabbage three times a week had a significantly reduced risk of breast cancer compared with those who ate less than one serving a week.
Polish women eat 30lb of cabbage and sauerkraut a year, compared with 10lb a year for US women.
Scientists from Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore also that a diet rich in glucosinolates,found in cabbage,broccoli, brussels sprouts and cauliflower,halved the rate of skin cancer in mice.
The glucosinolates in these vegetables are broken down by chewing or cutting into sulphoraphane, which has been shown in previous studies to have anti-cancer properties.
The scientists also applied an extract of sulphoraphane made from broccoli sprouts to the skin of hairless mice after they had been exposed to a dose of ultraviolet light, the equivalent of a day sunbathing on the beach, and found that after the mice had the extract painted on their backs twice a day for 11 weeks, the incidence and size of skin tumours in them was half of that in the untreated controls.
Although the extract did not act as a sunscreen it appeared to inhibit the carcinogenic effects of the ultraviolet light suggesting a "promising strategy" for adults who grew up before sunscreens were widely available.
Researchers from Florida A&M University found using garlic to flavour meat could help counter carcinogenic substances produced by cooking protein.
According to the World Cancer Research Fund the top cancer fighting foods are:-
- Cabbage and all members of the same family, sprouts, watercress and broccoli, the archetypal cancer preventive.
- Garlic
- red and orange peppers
- tomatoes
- onions
- carrots
- strawberries
- sunflower seeds
- and brazil nuts.
The studies were presented at the annual meeting of the American Association for Cancer Research.

Johns Hopkins is finally starting to tell patients of alternative ways to treat cancer. They have just released information that everyone should be made aware of.
Every person has cancer cells in their body. These cells do not show up in the standard tests until they have multiplied to few billion. When doctors tell cancer patients that there are no more cancer cells in their bodies after treatment, it just means the tests are not able to detect the cells because of their size.
Cancer cells occur between 6 to more than 10 times in a person's lifetime. When the person's immune system is strong the cells will be destroyed and the body prevents them from multiplying and forming tumors. When a person has cancer it indicates the person has multiple nutritional deficiencies. These could be due to genetic, environmental, or food and lifestyle factors. To overcome the multiple nutritional deficiencies, changing diet and adding supplements will strengthen the immune system.
Chemotherapy involves poisoning the rapidly growing cancer cells and when given this drug, it also destroys healthy cells in the bone marrow, gastro intestinal tract and can cause organ damage to liver, kidneys and heart to mention a few. Radiation, while destroying cancer cells also burns, scars and damages healthy cells, tissues and organs. Initial treatment with both chemotherapy and radiation will often reduce tumor size. However, prolonged use of chemotherapy and radiation do not result in more cancer destruction. When the body has had too much toxic burden from these the immune system is either compromised or destroyed, hence the person can succumb to other kinds of infections and other complications inflicted by the treatment. Chemotherapy and radiation can also cause cancer cells to mutate and becomes resistant and difficult to destroy. Surgery can also cause cancer cells to spread to other sites.
The affective way to battle cancer is to starve the cells by not feeding them the foods they need to multiply.
Cancer cells feed on,
Sugar - by cutting off sugar it cuts off one important food supply to the cells. Sugar substitutes like Nutra Sweet, Equal, Spoonful, etc are made with Aspartame and it is harmful in other ways. A natural substitutes would be Manuka honey or molasses, but only in very small amounts.
Salt - a better substitute for salt is Bragg's amino or sea salt.
Milk - causes the body to produce mucus, especially in the gastro intestinal tract. Cancer feeds on mucus. By cutting off milk and substituting with unsweetened soy milk cancer cells are being starved.
Cancer cells thrive in an acid environment
Meat based diet is acidic and it is best to eat fish and a little chicken rather than beef or pork. Meat also contains livestock antibiotics, growth hormones and parasites, which are all harmful, especially to people with cancer.
A diet made of 80% fresh vegetables and juice, whole grains, seeds, nuts and a little fruit will help put the body into an alkaline environment. About 20% can be from cooked food, including beans. Fresh vegetables juices provide live enzymes that are easily absorbed and reach down to cell levels within 15 minutes to nourish and enhance growth of healthy cells. To obtain live enzymes for building healthy cells try and drink fresh vegetable juice and eat raw vegetables 2 or 3 times a day. Keep in mind enzymes are destroyed at temperatures of 104 degrees.
Avoid coffee, tea and chocolate, which have caffeine. green tea is a better alternative and has cancer fighting properties.
Water - is best if it is purified or filtered to avoid known toxins and heavy metals in tap water. Do not drink distilled water it is acidic.
Meat protein is difficult to digest and requires a lot of enzymes. Undigested meat remaining in the intestines putrifies and leads to more toxic buildup.
Cancer cell walls have a tough protein covering. By refraining from or eating less meat it frees more enzymes to attack the protein walls of these cells and allows the body's killer cells to destroy them.
Some supplements build up the immune system (IP6, Forescence, Essiac, Anti-oxidants, vitamins, minerals, EFA's, etc) to enable the body's own cells to destroy cancer. Other supplements like vitamin E are known to cause apostasies or programmed cell death, the body's normal method of disposing of damaged, unwanted or unneeded cells.
Remember, cancer is a disease of the mind, body and spirit. A proactive and positive spirit will help the patient be a survivor. Anger, unforgiveness and bitterness put the body into a stressful and acidic environment. Learn to have a loving and forgiving spirit. Learn to relax and enjoy life.
Cancer cells cannot thrive in an oxygenated environment. Exercising daily, deep breathing will help to get more oxygen down to the cellular level.
